Here Is What You Will Need: |
- Q-tips * - Razor blade * - Rubbing alcohol * - Phillips head screw driver - Torx screwdriver (T-15) * Optional with white or red kit. |
The instructions below are for a V6 gauge cluster, however the 4cyl cluster is very similar.
First remove the 2 screws on the under side of the top of the trim piece and pull the trim piece off. (It is held in with 2 clips on the bottom corners)
Next remove the 4 screws that hold in the gauge cluster and tilt if forward to disconnect the wire harnesses.
Once the gauge cluster is removed, look at the back. The red arrows point to the bulb holders that light up the gauge faces and the needles. Turn the bulb holder 1/4 of a turn counter clock wise, and then pull it straight out. Remove the bulb from the holder, and insert the LED. Repeat for all five bulbs (4 for a 4cyl cluster) and reinstall the holders back into the cluster and plug in both wire harnesses into the cluster to test the LEDs.
If any LEDs do not light up, simply rotate them 180 degrees and test again. The best way to rotate them is: 1. Unlock the LED and plastic base - approx 1/4 turn counter clockwise so it can be removed. 2. Pull the LED and base out of the hole just enough to turn it 1/2 a turn (180 degrees) 3. Put it back in the hole 4. Twist it to lock it in (approx 1/4 turn clockwise).
The following steps are optional for the cool white and red kit since the white and red LEDs will light up the needles fine. However, you may do the steps with the cool white kit to have the needles light up a white color.
Now, remove the plastic cover that protects the gauge faces and needles. Use the torx screw driver (T-15) to remove the screws holding the cover. There are two screws at the bottom on the front and four screws on the back of the unit. (The red squares in the pictures below indicate the screw locations.)
Use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol to remove the orange from the face of the needles. Do not remove the paint from the back side of the needles. If the orange does not completely rub off, carefully use a razor blade to gently scrape off the remaining paint. This is what the gauge cluster will look like with the orange paint removed from the needles.
Put the cluster back in the car. Be sure to plug in both wire harnesses before you start the car.
Here is a day and night picture of what your gauge cluster will look like.
